Shrub or tree 3-5 m, leaves usually restricted to new growth, papery, often undulate at margin with a marginal nerve, domatia pubescent, Cultivated in Madagascar; known as Ibo coffee and Zanzibar coffee in Bridson 1982- flowers precocious borne on old stem, 2-5 par axil, borne in fascicled inflorescence (cf schema p 847), short peduncle; Fruit pale green turning blackish, ribbed, minutely puberulous, pedicelate. Flowers november, fruits February. Deciduous species, bearing several flowers on a common peduncle (Bridson1986)- In Hamon 1981: sessile fruit with large beans, trees with frequent flowering (every 2 months in RCI), ripening of the fruits in 2-3 months, swollen fruits. |
