in Stoffelen 1998, shrub 1-5 m, leaves domatia most often absent, host of leaf rust (hemileia coffeicola) in Ivory Coast (Berthaud et al. 1977). in Stoffelen 1998, flowers corolla tube 50-70 mm, long lobes 17-27 mm, anthers tips exserted, pedunculate fruits with 5 longitudinal pronounced ridges black crowned with accrescent calyx-lobes. According to R. P. J. Vest, they can be roasted and ground into a powder to make a coffee that has more or less the flavour of Robusta Coffee. Nevertheless, to obtain a good drink, it is recommended to mix the two types. Let us add that when the Psilanthus beans have come out of their shells, we cannot distinguish them from coffee beans at first sight. |
